Instructions

Are you experiencing a problem? A difficulty? A worry? Or anything else that is impacting your experience and your wellbeing? This exercise will give you the tools to work through it.

Studying abroad comes with challenges, many of which will seem daunting at first as you are in a new environment, surrounded by new and possibly strange experiences.

Even small changes such as a different class schedule can add up, making many of these challenges feel more difficult than they are. As your mind can be clouded by many "micro-worries", it can be difficult to know how to deal with one problem in particular.

In this case, the first and best thing to do is take some time and think about whether the issue is really a "problem" that needs a particular response.

Exercise: identify and work through the situation

The exercise on the next page will help you to work through the situation, identify what is or is not a problem, and figure out some ways of resolving it. It should take about 15 minutes to complete fully.

This exercise will help you think through the problem in a carefully and logical way to overcome it! After identifying the problem, it is easier to come up with solutions to tackle your obstacles. This exercise will give you a new tool in your toolkit to help you make the most of your study abroad experience.

Keep in mind that this exercise is here to help you reflect; there are no right or wrong answers and there is no minimum score required to pass.
